Balloon Blow-up
Steps:
1. Pour some water and vinegar into a bottle of narrow neck.
2. Put some baking soda into the balloon.
3. Hold onto the balloon at the bottle neck.
4. Pick up the heavy part of the balloon so that baking soda falls into the bottle.
5. Bubbles show up! Then, the balloon is full of gas and growing bigger.
Findings:
After we added the baking soda into the vinegar, the bottle was full of thousands of bubbles because when the acid and the alkali mixed, it could produced the hydrogen (gas). The balloon became more and more bigger.
Raisin City Music Hall
Steps:
1. Shake a bottle of soda.
2. Knock on the top two or three times.
3. Pour soda and drop about five raisins into a glass.
4. Observe the raisins dancing in soda.
Findings:
We shaked the soda hard and then knocked on the top of the bottle many times. It spraied as soon as we opened it.
But there was no difference after we knocked on the top.
Then we added the raisins into the soda. There was many bubbles. The raisins floated up but sank immediately.
The soda didn't make the raisins dance. It seemed that our experiment doesn't succeed.
Discussion
These experiments are not as serious as the professional one in the laboratory.
It's more casual and we can learn how to cooperate with our partners. During the process, we have a lot of fun.
When the bolloon was blown up, we felt really excited. It's really a meaningful activity.
